Nighty Night!

Laura is ready for bed! Today was a busy day filled with adventures. We went to Wylie Wagg and picked up some food and treats for everyone. Laura sat for all of the employees and got lots of yummy treats from the nice people at the register. She had her buddy Apollo with her so she was all tail wags. But now it's bedtime and she needs her beauty sleep. Lots of new people to meet tomorrow!

Laura's Weekend Plans

Laura has a busy weekend planned! She will be at LDCRF's regularly scheduled adoption event at the Falls Church Petsmart on Saturday from 12-3pm AND she will also be representing LDCRF at a WMZQ LIVE BROADCAST Adoption Event at the Annandale PETCO on Sunday from 12-2pm. Come meet her in person and see why we love her!

Enjoying the Outdoors

Laura really loves the outdoors and today was a beautiful day to be playing outside! So that's what we did! The puppies love to play and romp around the yard! Here's Laura being beautiful as always.

After playtime was over, Laura found a nice shady spot and watched over the yard from the hilltop.

Laura knows stuff!

Laura is a smartie pants. In just a few minutes a day she has learned watch me, sit, lay down, come, and is now working on shake. Once she masters shake we'll start learning to high five!

Happy Easter!

Laura wants to wish you a Happy Easter! She got to meet a bunch of family members and even gave out some kisses after receiving a few pieces of cheese from our guests! Let me tell you, this girl LOVES goat cheese. Ha ha. Strangers are becoming big treat dispensers and that is major progress. Our shy shepherd is becoming a brave puppy!

Car Rides

Laura didn't get adopted today, but she sure was happy to hop into the car and drive home. She is starting to really like car rides and is extra happy to have her pillow bed in the back seat as she smiles and looks out the windows. She is pure joy!

Lovely Day for a Walk

It was so beautiful outside that we decided to take the puppies for an extra long walk around the neighborhood and through the hiking trails. Laura is such a good girl and loves to go on walks. Strangers and cars don't even phase her anymore. She just bravely walks by with a happy bounce in her step.

Here she is giving her sister Lucia a kiss. She is such a love. We are enjoying every moment with her.

Fattening Laura Up

Laura is still a little skinny. We think she might have been more interested in playing than eating at the ranch... So we've been trying to fatten her up for her future family. She's been eating extra food and enjoying three meals a day since we started fostering her and we are starting to see some weight gain. She really enjoys some extra yogurt in her breakfast bowl too. All the more belly for you to rub!

Monday Mornings

Monday mornings are never fun, but sweet Laura is there to snuggle while I catch up on all of the homework that I should have been doing over the weekend. You can't find a more loving pup to get you over a case of the Mondays!

Part of the Pack

Here's our little pack all together. Can you tell that I had a cookie in my hand?! Laura is front and center looking fabulous!

Adoption Events

Today was our first time taking Laura to an adoption event! As expected, she was pretty scared at first and just wanted to be left alone. But after an hour of treats Laura started to gain her confidence and even let a young volunteer give her a belly rub!

Look! Other people petting her! We are so proud of our shy girl for being brave!

Laura's new toy

We brought this toy home tonight, a rubber polka dot chicken with a loud quacker in it. Laura squeezed it and jumped back with a few little ruff ruffs to let it know she was on to it. Then she carried it away to her crate to chew on for 30 minutes or so... And then to the couch for another 30 minutes or so... She could not get enough of this rubber bird's quack noise. Finally, half of the beak came off and we had to retrieve it from her. She is still looking at it longingly at it on top of the bookshelf. We may have to get her a few more of those. Ha ha.

Smartie Pants

Laura has been an amazing student. She learned come instantly since she loves to be with her people and housetraining only took three days! This smartie pants has already perfected her watch me and sitting skills and is now working on shake. Her progress is impressive and she loves to learn!

Lucia and Laura

Here are the girls of the household - my little terrier Mamah, happy Laura, and my shy Lucia (Laura's sister). Laura and Lucia love to play together and get along so well. You can tell they are a special pair of sisters.

Here they are bird watching out the window together. They are quite the nature lovers.

Housetraining Success!

Today was Laura's first day without any accidents in the house! We have discovered that while she won't go to the bathroom on leash (even a long training lead), she is happy to do her business in the backyard. So she is well on her way to being housetrained for her new family!

My New Study Buddy

Laura has proven to be an excellent study buddy! I'm a grad student so I'm at my desk a lot during the day, which is why the den is filled with dog beds and toys galore. Laura will come under my desk and put her head in my lap while she gently licks my fingers as if to ask me, "do you really have to study? Can't we play and cuddle instead?"

When I start typing again she curls up into the slightly too small dog bed at my feet. While she waits for me to finish up my work or our lunch break. She is such great company.

Love at First Lick

Our pitbull puppy Apollo and Laura are madly in love with each other! They play nonstop and are constantly snuggling in the same dog bed.

They even share the papasan together! Now that's love.

Getting Cuddly on the Couch

Laura has the most beautiful brown eyes. They are so beautiful that she has wiggled her way onto the couch...

Laura really loves a good afternoon nap and is an expert snoozer. She is super cuddly and gives the best kisses.

She also side sits like her sister Lucia, which is absolutely precious.

Our First Night with Laura

We picked up Laura today at the Fair Lakes Petsmart. I was so excited that I couldn't stop smiling the entire ride there! When I got to the van she was sitting in the back of her crate peeking out at me. There were crowds of people around and she was the last dog to be unloaded. I gave her some chicken jerky and she cautiously stuck her head out of the crate. After a few more pieces of jerky and some quiet coaxing, our shy Laura hopped out of the van and followed behind me as we weaved through the chaotic adoption event. My boyfriend, Will, was particularly excited to spend time with Laura and held her for the most of the event. They have become best buddies! Will fed her treats and spoke to her softly, while Laura looked up at him curiously. After a couple of hours, Laura was rolling over for belly rubs and kissing him on the nose. As the adoption event went on, I came by to check on the two of them and take my turn giving her treats. She is still cautious with strangers and won't let just anyone pet her until they put in a couple of hours of treats and baby talk, but she will take treats from everybody, even young kids. She was playfully pawing at both of us by the time we left, so we have no doubt that with a gentle approach and lots of treats she will warm up to her new family very quickly!

When it was time to go, Will picked her up and helped her into the car. We suspect soon she'll be jumping right in once she realizes it is safe. She laid down on her new dog bed and poked her nose between the front seats. I was telling her what a good girl she was and she reached over and kissed me on the nose. It was a perfect moment.

When we arrived home it was time for Laura to meet our pack (which includes her sister Lucia)! Laura was a little nervous when three (yes, we have three dogs of our own - a bossy JRT, a hyper pit bull puppy, and a shy shepherd!) came running towards her with their tails wagging and ready to inspect the newbie, but after we got walking she settled right in with everyone. By the end of the evening she was playing with the other dogs and pawing to come sit on the couch with us. She is so happy to be in a home and can't stop smiling!

Laura LOVES Will and follows him everywhere he goes around the house. She is such a love bug! If we weren't already at our dog limit we'd be tempted to keep this special pumpkin, but we know that, unlike her very shy sister, Laura will do well in a variety of homes. She just needs someone to love!

After playtime was over and the night was winding down, Laura took up her spot on one of the giant dog beds to chew on her antlers. She really loves having a toy box, but it sure tires her out.

Waiting for the Weekend

This is Laura!!! She came to LDCRF as a stray from Puerto Rico with her sister Lucia and this weekend we will be bringing her home as our newest foster pup!

I have been waiting to bring Laura home as our foster since I brought her sister home back in September. Lucia was much shyer than Laura, so we had taken her home first. After a lot of big challenges and victories, Lucia has joined our pack permanently. She decided that she simply wasn't going to be adopted by anyone else. Literally. Ha ha. So she is one of our three furry babies now and I love her like crazy.

Laura is basically a more confident Lucia. She LOVES treats and after a couple of hours of chicken jerky she is more than happy to accept belly rubs from her new friendly human treat dispenser. She is beautiful, intelligent, athletic, and loving. In short, she is a fabulous dog that is going to make someone very very happy!

Stay tuned to watch her come out of her shell and truly shine!
